Taylor & Francis has launched a six-month trial of Proofig AI, an advanced image integrity software, to detect duplication and manipulation in academic journal articles.
Taylor & Francis has initiated a six-month trial of Proofig, an AI-powered image integrity software, as part of its ongoing commitment to preventing image duplication and manipulation in academic journal publications.
Image-related misconduct, whether intentional or accidental, poses a significant threat to research integrity. Even unintentional duplications can compromise the credibility of the scholarly record, necessitating swift corrective measures.
Proofig leverages artificial intelligence, computer vision, and image analysis to examine figures for potential duplications, flagging them for further review. During the trial period, the Taylor & Francis Publishing Ethics and Integrity Team will integrate Proofig into their workflow alongside traditional manual verification methods conducted by trained professionals.
Dr. Sabina Alam, Director of Publishing Ethics and Integrity at Taylor & Francis, emphasized the importance of tackling image manipulation, stating, “Inappropriate image duplication undermines trust in published research. We are committed to exploring innovative technologies, such as Proofig, to strengthen our ability to detect and address these issues.”
